Cape Town born Johnny du Toit, has been writing and performing music for most of his life. In the last few years, since moving to London, Johnny has established himself as an accomplished singer songwriter and can be seen performing in some of the cities most prestigious venues. His dedication to the live stage and organisations like the SEB Collective secured him a second Indy Award Nomination in 2008. Johnny continues to grow as a musician and plans to release a self produced album in the near future.

With no formal musical upbringing or tuition, but showing an interest in music from a young age, Johnny was first introduced to the guitar at the age of thirteen by a family friend. He chose to follow his own style and technique which lead him to writing his own material.

A few years later in 1997, Johnny and a few high school friends formed a group, ‘Captain Gooch’. Being young kids with a dream and a will to succeed, the band was soon seen performing in high profile venues in and around Cape Town. After nearly five years the band members were finally forced to go their separate ways.

Since being in London, Johnny’s style has developed into what it is today through performing and collaborating with many of the city’s most talented solo musicians; resident slots include venues such as Soho Revue Bar, Gardening Club (Covent Garden) and My Place Hotel (Earls Court). Johnny has been invited to perform showcase gigs at exclusive venues like China White, The Embassy, Theatros and many more, sharing the stage with (then unknown) acts like Paolo Nutini and James Morrison.

For the second year running, Johnny’s hard work was rewarded with an Indy Music Award nomination, recognising talent and dedication of independent artists. Johnny continues to be an active member of the SEB Collective, a collective of artists, friends and family that share the same passion for music, working together to achieve their full potential.

Johnny has recently released a series of singles on i-tunes and is currently working on his solo album.
